The First In Mexico

Hospice Care Mitigare

Lee Carter Center

Compassionate End-of-Life Care

Mexico’s First Hospice Center, Here to Serve Our Community

We are proud to announce that Hospice Care Mitigare, Lee Carter Center—the first hospice care center in Mexico—is now open and ready to serve our community. This center is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to individuals in the final stages of life, regardless of financial circumstances.

At the Lee Carter Center, we offer both outpatient and inpatient hospice services, including personalized guidance and comprehensive end-of-life medical care for patients and their loved ones. Additionally, we continue to coordinate home medical care, a hallmark of our partnership at Hospice Care Mitigare since 2016.

We are also excited to introduce the Shaaron Kent Hospice Education Program, made possible by a generous grant. This program provides essential training in end-of-life palliative care for medical professionals, caregivers, social workers, and community members.

Our Education Facility offers vital training, technical assistance for end-of-life situations, and networking opportunities for health professionals and family caregivers supporting individuals with end-of-life prognoses.

Phase one of our project includes a medical care center with three inpatient beds, a day hospital, administrative offices, a volunteer office, a conference room, and a non-denominational chapel. Phase two, scheduled for completion within the next two years, will expand our training facilities to offer accredited courses for medical personnel and the broader community.

We are here to support you, and we look forward to serving you and your loved ones with compassion and care.

Our Beginning

For the last eight years, Mitigare Cuidados Paliativos A.C. has provided palliative care to patients facing terminal diagnoses in the comfort of their own homes and offered support to their families. As Les Matthews, president of Hospice Care Mitigare’s board, explained, “Mitigare will still provide services in people’s homes, but now, when a patient’s caretaker needs a break, or when someone lives too far out in the campo (countryside) to receive regular care, they can come to our facility for dignified, specialized end-of-life care.”

On November 27, 2023, a ceremony was held at the site of the new Hospice Care Mitigare location to mark the laying of the foundation stone. The ceremony was attended by Lic. Mauricio Trejo Pureco, the municipal president, and Leslie A. Matthews, President of the Board of Directors of Hospice Care Mitigare. The new center promises to benefit all residents of San Miguel de Allende.
