Hospice Care Mitigare
Lee Carnter Center
Join us for our inaugural Open House!
March 29, 2025 — Doors open at noon.
We are excited to share that Hospice Care Mitigare, Lee Carter Center—the first hospice care center in Mexico—will be opening its doors very soon! This center is for you, our community, offering compassionate, high-quality care to individuals in the final stages of life, regardless of financial circumstances.
As we prepare to welcome our first patients, we invite you to join us for our Inaugural Event on Saturday, March 29. Doors open at 12:00 PM, welcoming you to a special day where you can meet our dedicated team, tour the facility, and learn more about our mission.
The day will include a blessing ceremony led by faith leaders from different denominations at 12:00 PM, an official ribbon cutting at 2:00 PM, and insightful chats about our services at 4:00 PM. Guided tours will be available throughout the day, offering a firsthand experience of the care and dedication behind this project.
The Lee Carter Center
Our center will offer both outpatient and inpatient hospice services, including personalized guidance and comprehensive end-of-life medical care for patients and their loved ones. Additionally, we will continue to coordinate home medical care, a hallmark of our partnership at Hospice Care Mitigare since 2016.
We are also proud to introduce the Shaaron Kent Education Program, made possible by a generous grant, which will provide vital training in end-of-life palliative care for medical professionals, caregivers, social workers, and community members.
Our Education Facility will offer training that provides essential tools, technical assistance for end-of-life situations, and connections for all branches of health professionals, as well as family caregivers who are caring for individuals with end-of-life prognoses.
Phase one of our project includes a medical care center with three initial inpatient beds, a day hospital, administrative offices, a volunteer office, a conference room, and a non-denominational chapel. Phase two, scheduled for completion within the next two years, will expand our training facilities to host accredited courses for medical personnel and the wider community.
We can’t wait to welcome you to celebrate this milestone with us—see you there!

Our Beginning
For the last eight years, Mitigare Cuidados Paliativos A.C. has provided palliative care to patients facing terminal diagnoses in the comfort of their own homes and offered support to their families. As Les Matthews, president of Hospice Care Mitigare’s board, explained, “Mitigare will still provide services in people’s homes, but now, when a patient’s caretaker needs a break, or when someone lives too far out in the campo (countryside) to receive regular care, they can come to our facility for dignified, specialized end-of-life care.”

On November 27, 2023, a ceremony was held at the site of the new Hospice Care Mitigare location to mark the laying of the foundation stone. The ceremony was attended by Lic. Mauricio Trejo Pureco, the municipal president, and Leslie A. Matthews, President of the Board of Directors of Hospice Care Mitigare. The new center promises to benefit all residents of San Miguel de Allende.
